We welcome applications from prospective Section Française students with a strong level of French, or of native-speaking standard. The Section Française programme starts in Year 7 (11+), subject to numbers, although students may enter the School in Year 6 (10+).
In the Section Française programme, students will essentially follow the Whitgift curriculum in all subjects apart from French, where they will follow the curriculum as outlined by the French Ministry of Education. In these French lessons they will be taught by native speakers and will be offered the required mix of language, grammar, literature and cultural studies.
Application, assessment and interview
The only difference is that 11+ and 13+ applicants would sit an additional examination in French on the assessment day. Applicants applying for a 10+ place do not need to sit an additional exam prior to entrance. Should they be successful in the general entrance examinations and are offered a place, they would be reviewed in Year 6 to assess their suitability to join Section Française in Year 7
