Assistant Head (Pastoral)
Stewart Cook was brought up and educated in what is now Zimbabwe. He read English and Classics at Keele, achieving a Double First, then completed an MPhil in English Literature at York. He is a keen cricketer, having captained two universities and still captaining a Sussex league cricket team despite advancing down the track of years. He was Head of English at Whitgift, before becoming the School’s first IB Co-ordinator. He also ran the Whitgift Arts Festival for a number of years.
The main responsibilities of the post of Assistant Head (Pastoral) are:
- Responsibility for all aspects of the Whitgift pastoral system
- To be the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Liaising closely with the Heads of Year, the School Counsellors and the Second Master on all matters regarding the Pastoral side of the School
- Coordination of the work of outside agencies such as local authorities and children’s services
