Head of Upper School

Mark Brown is the Head of Upper School. He was educated at Maidstone Grammar School and York University where he read History. Having taught in other London schools, he joined Whitgift in 1997 as Head of History. He became Head of Sixth Form in 2006, taking on the role of Head of Upper School in 2008.

The main responsibilities of the Head of Upper School are:

  • To be responsible for all aspects of the academic and pastoral management of the Upper School (Years 10, 11, 12 and 13)
  • Oversight of curriculum matters in the Upper School, primarily affecting GCSE, A Level, IB and BTEC qualifications
  • Management and coordination of careers provision and university entrance within the School
  • Management of public exams and assessments with the Exams Officer
  • Oversight of assessment, reporting and option choices in the Upper School
