East Grinstead Hockey Club
Whitgift is delighted to announce our partnership with East Grinstead Hockey Club (EGHC), and we are looking forward to an exciting next three years, as we work together to find and develop the future of our sport - from playground to podium, grassroots to excellence.
Whitgift has a strong and successful sporting pedigree, and is proud of its hockey, with the U18s securing five national titles in three years including a hat trick of back-to-back championships outdoors. For well over 40 years, students and staff from Whitgift have played for various teams at EGHC, with representation in the 1st XI from the likes of former Welsh International, Brian Griffiths and his sons Steff and Toby, to Peter Head, and now to those of the more modern era in Richard Potton, Luke Taylor, and the newly arrived, and very exciting, Rhys Smith.
The School is lucky to have sporting partnerships in place with a number of clubs throughout the South of England, such as Chelsea FC and Crystal Palace FC for football, and Harlequins for Rugby. We are delighted to be working with EGHC as our new hockey partner.
EGHC’s history, success and mission to connect sport, business, community and education, whilst balancing the three core elements of elite sport, sport for all and grassroots development, matched many of our own values. We look forward to the road ahead.
