Skiing & Snowboarding

The School runs at least three ski trips each year with the principal aim of encouraging as many boys as possible to participate in these fantastic sports.

February Ski Trip

Run by Mr Turner, this is now a well-established trip that has visited several locations, principally in the Italian Alps. Designed for boys in the Lower School, it is a great opportunity for boys of all abilities but is more suitable for beginners and intermediates. In addition to full board accommodation, boys receive evening entertainment and full insurance.

Boys receive five hours of instruction each day and are able to take advantage of many of the fantastic facilities that are available in the hotel and resort.

Norway Ski Touring

A new venture in 2016; this is a fantastic opportunity for boys to experience the adventure and thrill of travelling on skis through the incredible scenery of Norway’s Hardangervidda mountain plateau.

Boys receive two days of intensive training on touring skis, before heading out towards their first mountain hut. Carrying all of their kit on their backs, they travel across frozen lakes and over hills as they tour this remote, yet safe, wilderness area. For those who are keen, there is an opportunity to spend a night in a snow hole, before setting off downhill, back to the base of Hovden.

Open to boys in Years 9 and above, who have had at least one week’s previous experience on skis. In addition, boys need to be both fit, and with a spirit of adventure, to ensure that they get the most out of the experience.

Ski Racing

The School now has a thriving group of skiers who have competed successfully at a number of recent events. The aim is to identify talented skiers, as young as possible, and help them to enjoy the thrill of ski racing in a variety of locations. This year, we have introduced a ski racing camp that takes place in October half term on the Grande Motte glacier, in Tignes. This trip allows boys to develop their skills, growing the talent pool at the School even further.

The Independent Schools Ski Championships in Les Deux Alpes is now a yearly event and recent additions have seen the boys compete in the British Indoor Ski Championships and London Dry Slope Championships. Led by top skiers, Piers Bellman and Josh Daws, who are current team champions, both indoors and on dry slopes and also reigning team champions, (Junior and Senior) at the Independent Schools Ski Championships.
