Lower First Form Lake Garda Trip 2017
Whitgift’s annual Lower First Form trip to Lake Garda, Italy, took place in September. The trip has been a tradition for many years as a way for new boys to get to know each other, form strong friendships through varied activities, experience a difference culture, and learn what it is to be an ambassador for Whitgift.
Using Lake Garda as a base, the 68-strong group of boys day-tripped to Verona, with visits to the beautiful amphitheatre, cathedral and Juliet’s balcony. For many of the boys, the highlight was tucking into a large gelato!
Next up was Venice, with boat trips, mask-making and a walking tour. The boys also fitted in more gelato and some souvenir shopping.
The following day, sailing on scenic Lake Garda was on the agenda, during which the teamwork skills they had learned during the week were put into practice. Each evening, the boys relaxed by the accommodation’s swimming pool, played football and enjoyed the excellent food.
On the final day, the boys finished off their trip with a raft-building competition before heading back to Whitgift. Mr Oliver Roberts, Assistant Head of First Form, concluded, “The trip was incredibly successful, with strong bonds formed between the Lower First Formers, which will help them settle into life at Whitgift. We arrived back, tired, but having enjoyed an excellent week – staff and boys alike.”
