Wallingford Rowing Camp 2015
This year’s Easter rowing training camp was based on the idyllic Wallingford stretch; 11 kilometres of perfect flat water, running through the beautiful Thames Valley. This, together with the excellent weather conditions, provided a strong platform to build water skills in preparation for the regatta season.
All of the 32 boys on the camp committed to a 5.30am daily wake-up call, a five kilometre run before breakfast, and several tough water sessions each day. Much headway was made by the J14 Octuple, J15 Quadruple, J16 Four and J17 Eight, with an emphasis being placed on training for the two-kilometre regatta-style races they will soon compete in, most notably the National School Regatta.
Mr Ian Hanley, Rowing Coach, commented, “One of the most memorable moments from the camp will no doubt be when our Head Coach, Mr Male, set the challenge to do 10 push-ups, burpees, or sit-ups everytime the words ‘Joker’ or ‘Gotham’ were mentioned during the two and a half hour Batman film. His training regime is truly relentless!”
Thanks goes to Oxford Brookes University and Moulsford Preparatory School, who provided use of excellent rowing facilities and accommodation, respectively.
